finally reveals E-needle : A Painless needle.
There are various options available for the delivery of drugs to the patients. The most commonly used route for delivery of drug to the body is oral or I/V (Hypodermic needle). Hypodermic needle has its use when the patient is not capable to take drugs orally or some other reasons. In case of delivery of drugs via hypodermic needle, patient feels intense pain which is not desirable.The cause of pain during needle puncture is damage of nerve fiber which generates action potential and propagates as pain signal. In this article we are proposing a new approach for developing a pain less injection for drug delivery by preventing the generation of action potential which further prevent depolarization of nerve fiber and conduction of pain signal.
E-needle made of using three modules. Control unit, electrode, and hypodermic needle.The proposed E -needle is used for drug delivery in the body. E- Needle passes in the skin through different layer. The various layers of skin are epidermis and dermis. Epidermis layer has large numbers of pain nerve fibers. When the conventional needle passes through skin it first makes contact with the epidermis layer which has large numbers nerve pain fibers, so body feels pain. Body feels pain because of the generation of action potential in the nerve pain fiber. Generation of action potential can be avoided by preventing the depolarization by ionizing the water molecule in the ECF. Ionization of water molecule is done using electrolysis effect . Water molecule get ionized when the standard potential is applied on the water (E = -1.23V). Electrolysis effect comes in the picture when we provide controlled amount of current to the water molecule by control unit. E- Needle has a control unit which provides the fixed amount of current and voltage (-1.23V) for electrolysis of water and needle work as cathode. When the E – needle makes contact with skin
